To promote reading for pleasure, Whitehorse infant and junior schools have teamed up and created a ‘reading buddy’ session once a week. During this session, infant and junior classes have been paired up to read with each other. This week Ms Hall visited the Year 1 and Year 5 session and commented, ‘It was so lovely to observe the care and enthusiasm the older children particularly demonstrated with their younger buddies’. The children have really enjoyed these sessions and for the Year 2 children it has enabled them to become a bit more familiar with the junior school (where they will be heading in September). Hopefully, these sessions have not only encouraged the children’s enjoyment of reading but given them confidence in transitioning to the junior building next year.
