At Pegasus we believe that all children can achieve in maths. We are very proud of the Trust’s bespoke ‘Maths Mastery’ approach which breaks learning down into microscopic steps within each area of maths learning. Our structured lessons enable children to have a secure understanding of mathematical concepts and to develop the skills needed to become confident, numerate individuals.
To ensure we are at the ‘cutting edge’ of current research and developments in the teaching of maths, Pegasus work closely with the NCETM (National College for Excellence in Teaching Maths). We have sixteen staff across Pegasus who are working closely with our NCETM Hub on eight differenet projects. These projects give our teachers the chance to work in partnership with the maths hub, drawing on expertise from both within and outside the Trust and working exclusively with Trust schools or with a wider network.
On Wednesday, Ecclesbourne hosted an NCETM sustaining maths mastery meeting. This meeting focussed on ensuring continued improvement, consistency and refinement of teaching for mastery. Teachers, maths leads and SLT from eight local primaries visited our school and were treated to a model lesson in Saturn class. Mr. Winborn, Mrs. Roberts and Mr. Kelly were very proud of Saturn class and their excellent problem solving strategies and attitudes to learning.
Ecclesbourne are looking forward to working closely with the maths hub over the next year and sharing our excellent maths practice.
