CYPRESS: A Bonanza Book Week at Cypress!

What a fabulous and fun-packed week we have had at Cypress to celebrate all things bookish!
Andrew Clover Brings Laughter and Inspiration to Book Week
Writer, comedian, and actor Andrew Clover delivered a hilarious and inspiring Book Week assembly at the Upper School on Tuesday, leaving everyone laughing and full of creative ideas. Andrew shared his Seven Secrets to Storytelling, mixing humor with valuable tips on how to craft great stories. He got the whole school involved, with students brainstorming and creating stories on the spot, all while keeping the energy high and the laughs rolling.
“I’ve never seen such a creative, well-behaved group of kids!” Andrew said, clearly impressed by the students’ enthusiasm.
On Tuesday, Year 4 classes also enjoyed a hands-on workshop with Andrew, where they learned how to turn their ideas into exciting stories. Stay tuned for more details on these workshops—it’s clear the Upper School is buzzing with new inspiration!

We have also been lucky enough to have assemblies from Josh Seigal, Paul Lyalls and Margaret Bateson – Hill – it’s been a tremendously exciting week.

Lower Site had incredible assemblies with Margaret Bateson-Hill and Jeanne Willis, as well as workshops with both of these authors and the storyteller, Kevin Graal.

World Book Day

Everyone looked fantastic and there was a joyous atmosphere in the hall as the children entered and admired each others’ outfits.  I think some favourites were Aslan from the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis and the Lost Crayons (a.k.a. the year five teachers and the year 1 and 2 staff) from The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt, illustrated by Oliver Jeffers.

Even the very youngest two and three year olds dressed up in Little Cypress and all enjoyed being their favourite book characters.

Hazel Assembly

We were treated to a wonderful class assembly from Hazel this morning.  Horrible Histories went live at Cyp Upper! They presented their learning about Viking settlements and daily lives enthusiastically and with great humour.  It was lovely that so many parents were able to join us to share the learning.

Poetry Slam

And to top it all, the whole of the Upper School gathered this afternoon to watch each class’ poetry performance.  Some of the children had worked the authors of their chosen poems just this week.  It was a great treat and a special way to end a fabulous book week.

Book Fair

How amazing to see so many of you at the Book Fair after school today, browsing and buying so many wonderful books and utilising the World Book Day vouchers. We did a roaring trade and please come and have a look next week if you didn’t get a chance today.

A huge thank you to the PTFA for funding all these incredible workshops and to Mrs Parker, Ms Pumphrey and Ms Cheeseman for working so hard to give the children such unforgettable experiences.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
