On Monday 20th June, courtesy of Ms Madukah, we were lucky enough to have Arthur Torrington CBE leading our assembly commemorating Windrush Day – 22nd June.
Arthur is a community advocate and historian who is Director and co-founder (along with Sam King BE) of the London-based Windrush Foundation, a charity that since 1996 has been working to highlight the contributions to the UK of African and Caribbean peoples.
His assembly took us on a whirlwind journey through history demonstrating the important role people from Africa and the Caribbean have always had in upholding and maintaining the interests of the British Empire.
He managed to enlighten the children on the remarkable contributions that the Windrush generation have made to our society, even while going through the challenges of immigration.
