WHJUN Museum Day 2025

Our annual ‘Museum Day’ remains a highlight of the school calendar.  As the culmination of our dedicated ‘Thematic Week’, it’s an opportunity for children to share their work in the broader curriculum with parents and other children.  There is a high level of competition between year groups to provide the best interactive experience.  Year 3 travelled back to the Victorian era, sharing art and design based on the Crystal Palace, ‘enjoying’ gruel and feeling the shock of the teachers being ‘Victorian’ strict (Were they really that strict in Victorian times?  We had some excellent guides in Year 4, showing visitors around the Roman displays, where colourful shields ruled supreme.  Year 5 took things to the next level with an almost life-sized Viking longboat hanging from the ceiling, joining ‘Sven’ the resident Viking model to welcome visitors upstairs.  Meanwhile, the Ancient Egyptian death masks along the Year 6 corridor, together with their sand paintings and shadufs, were an absolute feast for the eyes.  And on the subject of feasts, no Museum Day would be complete without an offering of historic foods for visitors to enjoy.  The goat cheese (feta) was getting mixed reviews (it was nice at first but the after-taste was weird) but the grapes and dates were universally popular.  Well done to all the children and staff for their magnificent work.  Look out for individual Year Group stories, as they still have lots to share.
