It was a rare pleasure for me to accompany the WHJUN choir on their annual carol singing visit to Tesco in Thornton Heath this Monday. With all that is going on in school, I thought I’d only have time to walk them down but I will tell you quite honestly that when they started to sing they sounded so overwhelmingly beautiful that I couldn’t then bring myself to leave them. It was fascinating to watch the reponse of the local shoppers and Tesco staff too. What began as slight interest soon grew into an enthusiastic audience and I lost count of how many total strangers came up to congratulate me on the children’s singing. Of course, it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with Mrs Ehiemua who works so hard with the choir. This really did get us all in the festive spirit and we will definitely have the choir singing outside the school one day next week so that more of you can enjoy them – watch this space. The manager at Tesco was very generous this year too and, in addition to raising funds for The Royal National Institue of Blind People, the choir also returned with an actual trolley load of chocolate and biscuits – they will be enjoy this stash of goodies well into the new year, although they have kindly made a donation to the staff room too.
