Over the past few weeks, we have been promoting our love for reading and the importance of reading for pleasure. We kick started with a competition where children were asked to take photos of them reading in ‘unusual places’. We had a insightful assembly all about what reading for pleasure meant and why it was so important. Children thought of some exciting places they wanted to take photos of including standing in the bath, sitting in a plant pot, reading whilst on a visit to the dentist and even reading through a letterbox. Don’t forget, all entries should be emailed in to readingpics@pegasusacademytrust.org and the deadline for all entries is Monday 5th December. The school council will then be selecting the winners and awarded prizes. Remember, the more unique and quirkier the better! Take a look at some of the entries below to help inspire you!
We are also excited to be holding our first Reading Café on Monday 28th November for our Year 1 parents. We welcome all Year 1 parents and carers to join us for a cup of tea and some biscuits and the chance to learn about how you can support your child’s reading at home and help them to become fluent readers. After the workshop, we will be inviting children into the hall to share a story with you. You will get to snuggle up on a beanbag, enjoy a story with your child and put into practise some of the strategies you have learned. Please keep an eye out for the Reception and Year 2 Reading Café dates, which will be announced shortly. We hope to see lots of you on Monday.
This week, we launched our ‘Word of the Week’ competition where children will be introduced to a new word every week. This will help children in developing their vocabulary which will support not only their reading but also their writing. Children must then use the ‘Word of the Week’ in a sentence and post them in our special box. Each week the best sentences will be selected and those children will proudly wear the Word Wizard rosette. Our word this week was ‘teamwork’ inspired by the start of the Men’s Football World Cup.
We are so exciting to be sharing our love for reading with each other and celebrating that we are all readers!
