Last week, we gathered together at assembly time to think about the importance of Remembrance Day. We learnt about the men who fought in the war and women who although couldn’t fight, provided valuable help as nurses, cooks and drivers. We looked at photos of poppies and spoke about the significance of these for Remembrance Day. At the end of the assembly, we all took part in a two minute silence. All children listened carefully and showed respect on this important occasion. Back in the classroom, children in Year 1 made their own poppies and read a special Remembrance Day poem as part of their reading session. Year 2, created a whole class poppy, writing something they had learned on each petal.
