CYP LOWER – Wondrous World Book Day in LIttle Cypress!

Books, books books….

What a fantastic assortment of book characters arrived in Rainbows and Nursery today, in honour of World Book Day! It was heart-warming to see so many incredible children’s books come to life in our classrooms. Amongst many others, we had Zogs, Belles, Stickmen, Harry Potter characters (Harry, Draco Malfoy, Ron), Betty the Scarecrow from ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’, Little Red Riding Hoods, Dog Man, a variety of Superheroes, various fairy tale princesses and so much more!  A huge thank you to all the parents and carers for helping to provide such fantastic costumes to celebrate our love of books.

All the adults in Little Cypress dressed up as some of the characters from ‘That’s not my….’ series of books which are so beloved of the younger children. These included a teddy, cat, rabbit, tiger, owl, princess, pig, angel and reindeer.

We had a book-filled day, talking about and reading our favourite books together, including some of those that the children had brought in to match their outfits.

We enjoyed playing in our Little Cypress Book Cafe with our toys, tea sets, pretend cakes and biscuits and lots of familiar books to read to the soft toys. Paddington Bear enjoyed lots of amazing stories being read to him!

Quotes about books

Books, just like children, are magical. Here are a few inspiring quotes about the power of books:

“A word after a word after a word is power.” – Margaret Atwood

“I think books are like people, in the sense that they’ll turn up in your life when you most need them.” – Emma Thompson

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” – Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

“Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world.” – Jeanette Winterson

“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” – Frederick Douglass

“Reading makes immigrants of us all. It takes us away from home, but more important, it finds homes for us everywhere.” – Jean Rhys

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales!” Albert Einstein

Reading opens up the world to us and today was all about celebrating the wonder of books.
