Autumnal Learning
This time of year offers up a plethora of learning opportunities with all the changes in nature, as well as special events such as Diwali, Halloween, Bonfire Night and Remembrance. We have been marking all these occasions, as well as noticing all the Autumnal changes, including the leaves falling from the trees and the weather becoming a little colder. The children in both Nursery and Rainbows have been excitedly recalling their memories of watching the fireworks this week, using lots of descriptive words to explain the colours and sounds that they witnessed. The children enjoyed making sparkling firework pictures and making firework patterns in flour!
Remembering…
We have been learning about why we wear poppies at this time of year and some of the children were very confident about the reason. Darcey said: “We wear poppies to remember the soldiers who died in the wars!” We made repeating printing patterns of poppies using the colours red, green and black. We watched the wonderful clip from CBeebies to help us understand a little better. You can watch the clip with your children here and we will watch it when we have the silence on Monday, 11th November at 11.00am, along with the nation. In fact, we have been thinking about patterns all week and making them with multilink cubes and with other resources around the classroom.
Pumpkin Surprise!
We had lots of pumpkins left over after using them before half-term for various activities. We read the story, ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and decided to make our own pretend Pumpkin Soup by scooping all the seeds and flesh out of the pumpkins and squashes and mixing them all together to create some amazing concoctions! It was hard work at times to scoop out the contents but we persevered and used our gross and fine motor skills to great effect! Seve enjoyed eating some of the stray pumpkin seeds! Bella said: “Are we having a pumpkin festival?” and Luca remembered: “We have pumpkins at Halloween!”
Makaton Sign of the Week
As usual, we have learned a new Makaton sign this week. It is a very relevant one this week: fireworks! Click here to see how to sign the word ‘fireworks’.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
