Patterns, patterns, everywhere!
Wow! What a group of budding mathematicians we have in Little Cypress this year! We have noticed the children looking for patterns in the environment and creating their own, using the resources available. This has included sorting the number tiles outside in to colours and numbers, sorting the fruit counters and mini-beast counters in to colours and type and also sorting the dinosaurs in to size order when playing with the Dinosaur World!
Story Superstars!
Both Nursery and Rainbows have been getting so good at listening and responding to stories at carpet time. We are building up a repertoire of favourite books and this week we have loved: ‘Owl Babies’, ‘Monkey Puzzle’, ‘The Tiger who came to Tea’ and ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’. We have been anticipating the repeated refrains or the rhyming elements of the stories and joining in enthusiastically. We all love relaxing in our book corners, devouring our favourite stories!
Makaton Sign of the Week
As usual, we have learned a new Makaton sign this week. This week’s sign is very relevant, as it is the word Autumn. Click here to see how to sign the word Autumn. We have been noticing the changes in the weather as Autumn is now upon is. It is feeling colder, there has been plenty of rain and the leaves on the trees are changing colour.
Learning to be independent!
The children in Little Cypress have been doing so well in learning to be independent. We are trying to encourage the children to recognise and put on their coats, recognise their water bottles and try and put their belongings on their peg. Please help us with this by clearly naming everything that comes in to school and helping your child to learn how to put their coat on, pull up their sleeves, wash their hands and ask for help from an adult when they need it. We have been discussing all these things at our weekly ‘Circle Time’ in Nursery and are gradually learning to wait our turn to speak and to respond to questions and direction. We are such Cypress Superstars!
