We know that Spring has properly arrived when the tree in the Nursery playground comes into blossom and this week it has done just that. Beautiful pink blossom has burst through and with it we had a few days of lovely, Spring-like weather.
St Patrick’s Day
The 17th March marked St Patrick’s Day, a day of celebration in memory of St Patrick, a patron saint of Ireland. We thought particularly about the colours green and gold and enjoyed playing with a St Patrick’s themed tuff tray, complete with leprechauns, shamrocks and lucky coins. We did some amazing and exciting marble paintings using light and dark green and gold coloured paints.
Holi
This week we have also learned about the Hindu Spring festival of Holi. This ancient tradition marks the end of winter and honors the triumph of good over evil. Celebrants light bonfires, throw colourful powder called gulal, eat sweets, and dance to traditional folk music. We loved learning about the different colours and how people have fun throwing the coloured powders at each other. It sounds like great fun!
Easter
We have also thinking about Easter and have started to create our Easter cards, ready to take home next week. We have lots more exciting Easter activities planned for next week as well.
Makaton Sign of the Week
As usual, we have learned a new Makaton sign. This week we have learned the sign for recycling. What an important word to learn: it is so important that we learn to recycle as much as we can to prevent waste and to preserve our precious planet. Click here to see how to sign the word recycling.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend. It is difficult to believe we are already nearly at the end of the Spring Term!
