Last week, the reception children said goodbye to their class butterflies! It has been very exciting watching our Caterpillars grow and change into beautiful butterflies. The children are able to tell you all about the life-cycle of a butterfly and the names of the different life stages it goes through. For example, Alex said, “It starts off as an egg, then it gets bigger and goes into a cocoon. It then breaks out of the cocoon and comes out as a butterfly!” On Friday, we all enjoyed releasing them on the school field this and we had great fun discussing where we think they will fly to!
Some of the children’s favourite facts. Did you know…
- Caterpillars eat constantly and therefore they always outgrow their skin?
- Caterpillars shed their skin several times, as it gets too small for them?
- Caterpillars have twelve eyes?
