This week we looked at the book, ‘Clean Up!’. In it we saw that our oceans are not as clean as we thought they were and that the rubbish they are being filled with is harming the animals who live in them. We thought about how this makes us feel and what we can do to help reuse and recycle our waste. We learned about the people who work to clean up our planet every day. On Friday, a disaster happened in the infant hall. A turtle was swimming around in a pool of water when it got trapped under a pile of rubbish. The children helped free the turtle from the rubbish. They made sure that the rubbish was sorted so that it could be recycled and it wouldn’t go back into the oceans.
On Friday, we also had a visit from Karsu’s mum, who is a dentist. This is in preparation for next week’s learning when we will look at the book, ‘Croc goes to the Dentist’. She showed us the special uniform she wears and explained why she has to wear a mask, gloves and sometimes a visor. She talked about the special equipment she uses, such as a tiny mirror to count and look at people’s teeth. She explained why it is so important to brush your teeth twice a day, and visit the dentist twice a year. Thank you Flora for giving up your time to come in and teach the children today.
