Over the Easter Holidays, the team across Pegasus gave Atwood Nursery a facelift! The flooring has changed, new lights have been fitted across the room and toilet and some furniture has been taken away to make space for new. The much-needed improvements have brightened up the space and the children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring it all over again.
Phonics:
With a short week, we postponed our sound of the week for next week. However, we have started to sing our new song “The Wheels on the Bus” and blend from the box ‘bus’, ‘van’ and ‘boat’. We played the game ‘What’s that sound?’ whilst the children guessed from different modes of transport.
Literacy:
This week, we have been reading the book “We All Go Travelling By” by Sheena Roberts. The book goes on a journey with different types of transport. As we looked at each mode, the children happily shared their experiences and created many actions too! One child shared, “I went on a plane on holiday”, while another shared “I go in the car.” This led us to talk about our journey to Nursery and how we get there. Responses included: the car, walking, getting the bus or riding a bike or scooter.
Maths:
This week has seen us look at and recap shapes. Our week began with recapping our 2D shapes, naming and recognising them by their properties such as sides and corners. The children then learnt the difference between 2D and 3D shapes, exploring ‘Spheres’, ‘Cylinders’, ‘Cubes’ and ‘Cones’. To help us remember the difference, 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are fat. The children took turns to find 3D shapes around the room. They found a ball, dice and an ice cream cone from the home corner!
Enhanced provision:
The new theme has helped us create many crafts. These included paintings using tyre marks from toy cars, drawing representations of different transports, and creating a car craft, emphasising using the resources and scissors independently to promote independent learning.
Child’s voice:
