Yesterday, year 2 were invited to visit Croydon Mosque and Islamic centre. We were greeted at the door by the imam and given an extra special welcome. Imam Malik was full of information and taught the children about Islamic beliefs and celebrations.
Then he invited some of our Muslim children to recite passages from the Quran. Ridwan wowed us all with an amazing recitation of ‘Alfatih’.
As you may probably imagine, our children had lots of questions about the mosque and the imam was happy to answer all questions as well as point out the key features of a mosque. You may not realise, but this relatively small mosque, can hold up to 5000 people at prayer time. A highlight for the children was the chance to visit the very top of the mosque and get a better look at the minaret.
It was a privilege to see where Muslims go to worship and to have chance to have our questions answered. We hope to continue going to Croydon mosque in the future.
