CYP Lower – Celebrating Chinese New Year in Little Cypress!

Year of the Snake 2025

Chinese New Year falls on the 29th January this year and it is the Year of the Snake. In Little Cypress, we have started to learn about this colourful and important festival. We have learned how the years got their name during The Great Race and how the rat won, even though he cheated! We have thought about the important colours of Chinese New Year which are red and gold, with red signifying good luck and fortune.

We have started to try and paint the Mandarin words for the animals in The Great Race and have done really well at copying the symbols, with fantastic focus: what superstars!

Designers and Builders

The children have used their imaginations and creativity so well this week, using the play resources in such interesting and innovative ways. Some of the boys used the dominoes to create a car park with spaces for their vehicles and some budding town planners created some incredible cities using the blocks. Laolu made two identical pyramids which he then secured together and said: “Look! A double pyramid!”

Busy Bees

Amelie brought in something amazing to show us today! Her daddy had brought back some honeycomb on a frame, all the way from Brazil. She really proudly explained that it had come over on an aeroplane from South America and we learned about how bees make honey. Thank you so much, Amelie, for sharing this treasure with us!

Makaton Sign of the Week

As usual, we have learned a new Makaton sign. This week is the word ‘shop’. Click here to see how to sign the word ‘shop’.

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and a huge well done to all the children who have been learning to put their coats on independently! We are so impressed with you!
