ATW Reception News – Funny bones, teamwork and movement

This week in Reception, we have been busy finishing their first topic, ‘Marvellous Me!’. Our book this week was ‘Funny Bones’ by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. We had a spooky visitor called Professor Bones (the school skeleton) who taught us all about the human skeleton. We enjoyed feeling our bones and learning the different names of those parts of our bodies, such as the ‘skull’ and ‘thigh’. We had a go at putting a dog and human skeleton back together again, just like in the story.
In PE we explored moving like the different animals. We flapped like an owl, slithered like a snake, and ran like a fox. We have been focussing on working together, and it has been lovely to see some excellent examples of teamwork going on in the continuous provision. We finished learning our first lot of phonics sounds, with everybody working hard in these lessons.  As part of Black history Month everybody has been sharing about their family cultural history.  We had a very special visit from Ada’s mummy, who told us all about growing up during apartheid in South Africa.  We thank her for giving up her time to share her experience with us all.
