Welcome to Yellow Class, where learning phonics has become a wonderful adventure! Since we embarked on our phonics journey, we have become very enthusiastic learners and each day we are excited to dive into new sounds of letters.
From the very first session, the excitement in the air was palpable. Our phonics activities include singing, ’What’s in The Box’, oral blending games, independent blending and exploring different colourful flashcards. It has been wonderful to see how much the children love learning new sounds and are very excited for their phonics lessons. We wonder who will be crowned next as our class phonics superstar?
Each session is filled with smiles, curiosity, and the joy of learning! I have been very impressed with the children developing their fine motor skills whilst practising their newly learnt sounds on their whiteboards.
In Yellow Class, a Phoneme we particularity enjoyed learning all was the letter ‘k’ and its joyful association with the Mnemonic ‘kite’. To bring this phonic sound to life, we embarked on a creative adventure! First, as independent learners we used our own creative skills to collage and our own kites. Next, we used our cutting skills (that we have been practising a lot of), to carefully cut out our own special kites. We all made our own, unique kite, showcasing our own individual style, which made the classroom buzz with excitement as everyone shared ideas and worked as a team. One child said, “I am using string to make my Kite fly higher!”.
Once the kites were completed, it was time for the real fun to begin! We headed out to the garden, where a gentle breeze awaited us. With laughter filling the air, we all ran across the field, proudly flying our kites high in the sky.
Through this delightful experience, the children not only strengthened their understanding of the ‘k’ sound but also honed their fine motor, cutting and creative skills and embraced teamwork. It was a morning filled with joy, creativity and excitement, particularly when flying our kites! We are striving to be ‘Pegasus People’ by being independent learners and caring for our friends!
Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey of learning! We can’t wait for more phonics adventures ahead!
