What an amazing week we have had in Reception and Little Cypress! We have been immersed in books and had a magical few days with our favourite stories coming alive. The week started with a visit from a wonderful storyteller, Kevin Graal, who told us brilliant stories in his own inimitable style.
All the Reception children attended an assembly with the author Margaret Bateson-Hill, who took us all the way to the Appalachian Mountains in the United States to tell us a fabulous tale including wolves, rabbits and human trees! Everyone interacted so well with the storytelling and became completely engrossed in the land of make believe. I wouldn’t be surprised if the howling of the wolves could be heard from America!
To add to the fun this week, Reception have enjoyed buddy reading with Year 3 from Upper, a visit to our Saplings Library with some of the parents in our three classes and then all the excitement today of World Book Day and all the incredible and imaginative outfits from a huge variety of our favourite books. These were celebrated and admired in a dedicated Reception Assembly this morning. The diversity and creativity displayed in the World Book Day costumes was awe-inspiring: from Mrs Tiggywinkle, Max from Where the Wild Things Are, Zog, The Snowman, Little Red Riding Hoods, Mr Men and Little Misses, The Mad Hatter and many, many more.
We loved seeing the Extreme Reading photographs; how funny that you have been reading in the bath, on top of vans and cars, to Paddington Bear at Paddington Station and even in the swimming pool! Congratulations to RuRu in Red Class for winning the Extreme Reading Competition for reading whilst swimming! We hope your book didn’t get too soggy!
Little Cypress enjoyed buddy reading with both Year 1 and Year 6 and all the staff were so impressed with how kindly the older children treated the youngest ones. What amazing reading and storytelling skills you all have! The children loved having you in Nursery and Rainbows, especially when they teamed up with their siblings!
A huge thank you for all the support from our wonderful parents at Cypress who always get behind these special events and encourage a love of reading which we hope will last a lifetime.
Keep Reading Everyone!
Makaton Sign of the Week
As we do each Friday, we have learned a new Makaton sign; this week it is salad
Do any of you like to eat salad? Please have a go at signing it!
Have a wonderful weekend!
