CYP LOWER – Little Cypress: Kung Hei Fat Choy!

The children in Little Cypress have had an exciting time this week learning all about Chinese New Year. This year, the celebrations began on 1st February. We have learned about different aspects of this important festival, including the prominence of the colour red for luck, the twelve animals involved in The Great Race to name the years of the lunar calendar and traditions such as cleaning and decorating the house and giving money in red envelopes to symbolise prosperity for the year ahead. We have tried painting the Chinese symbols for the animals, attempted to use chopsticks and sampled vegetable noodle stir-fry!  We have learned that 2022 is the Year of the Tiger and we have been thinking about tigers and what makes them unique. We have watched some amazing dragon dances in Chinese New Year celebrations around the world.

We have also listened to the story The Tiger who came to Tea by Judith Kerr and wondered what we would do if a tiger came to our house for tea? The children were very kind and said they would invite him in and give him lots of cake to eat, as well as some noodles!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
