Over the last couple of weeks, Year 6 have been studying the text ‘Varmints’ by Helen War and Marc Craste. This beautiful and hauntingly illustrated book shows a world where once the only sounds to be heard were the buzzing of bees in the grass, the murmuring of moles in the earth and the song of birds in the sky. These warmed the hearts of those who cared to listen – until the others (the Varmints) came to fill the sky with buildings and the air with a cacophony of noise.
In role as one of the nature-loving creatures who occupied the world before the Varmints arrived, the children wrote a letter of complaint to an MP demanding that something be done about the invasion of the Varmints.
