Christmas has really taken off at Atwood this week.
A slighter shorter newsletter this week as, amidst all the usual learning, everyone has either been performing or rehearsing for shows. It has been lovely to see so many parents in school joining us for some festive cheer. The children have done an incredible job and we really hope you enjoyed the shows. We are very proud of them and we look forward to seeing the KS1 Nativity next week.
On Monday, we had 2 guest speakers in our assembly to share a Christmas message and remind us about the true meaning of Christmas.
On Wednesday the children also got to see a pantomime performance of Cinderella with all of the usual audience participation. There was a lot of screaming and shouting with booing the baddies and cheering the heroes.
Today, the children enjoyed a great Christmas lunch. All the children looked splendid in their Christmas jumpers and their customised crowns and Harrisons put on a lovely spread. With music playing, the children sat with staff and tucked in.
Finally, after school, we had our Christmas Fair. It was very busy with lots of people taking the opportunity to support the fundraising efforts of FOAP. There was also a lovely performance by our choir of singers. Many thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who helped to run the fair.
All in all it has been a very festive week and we need the weekend to recover before the final week of the term.

This week, we welcomed Purley Oaks Primary school to Atwood. The grey and cold conditions did not dampen the team’s big smiles and after a successful first half, we changed some positions on court. Versatility is key and I’m pleased to say the girls stepped up and worked together to bring home an amazing 13 -1 win. Purley Oaks voted Amber as their player of the match. Congratulations to all that played – Alicia, Izzy, Honey, Lexie, Jiya, Amber, Tekarra and Autumn.
On Thursday, in what can only be described as classic football conditions, the girls’ football team took on Ridgeway in a very competitive match. It was 0-0 after a tense first half but 2 early goals in the second half put Ridgeway ahead. The girls battled back with a goal from Amber to make it 2-1 and then piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser Despite many near misses they couldn’t quite score and a breakaway goal right at the end meant a 3-1 win for Ridgeway. However, it was a great team performance and the girls are really developing as a team.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated to our collection at the end of the Christmas shows. So far, we have managed to raise over £500 which we will pass on to Children with Cancer UK and the AT Society.
