On Friday 8th July, Year 5 travelled to the Tower of London as part of their ‘Crime and Punishment’ topic. After travelling by train to London Bridge, we took a walk along the Thames and saw ‘The Shard’ and ‘Tower Bridge’ before arriving at the Tower of London.
Once we arrived, we took part in a workshop where we became trainee jailors. The children were surprised to know that cells at the tower were not like they expected. As it is a palace, this was where high profile, wealthy prisoners such as Anne Boleyn were kept. If you had money, it meant you had a good room, could pay for your own furniture and food. We visited lots of different rooms and even got to see the ravens. We then went to see the ‘Crown Jewels’ which was very exciting and we enjoyed deciding whihch was our favourite crown.
After lunch, we visited the ‘Superbloom’ in the moat. The moat has been filled with wild flowers to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. After a quick trip to the gift shop, we made our way back to school tired and happy.
Thank you to all our parent helpers who supported the trip.
