During their visit to the Science Museum, Year 5 students had an unforgettable experience. They were amazed by the IMAX cinema’s 3D film, which detailed Earth from space and the daily lives of astronauts on the International Space Station. Afterward, they explored the museum, marvelling at artefacts such as rockets and replicas of landing ships. They were thrilled to see a full-sized replica of Eagle, the lander that took astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin to the Moon in 1969. Additionally, they discovered the intricacies of living in space, learning about essential activities like breathing, eating, drinking, and even using the toilet. The students also gained a unique insight into the history of rockets, marvelling at the suspended British Black Arrow and United States Scout rockets, which hung from the museum’s ceiling. These experiences not only deepened their understanding of our Science unit, Earth and Space but also inspired them to explore more about the universe, especially as they delve into their literacy topic on “Hidden Figures”.
