Year 3 had the fantastic opportunity to visit the London Wetlands Centre this week!
The school was given the opportunity to take part in ‘Generation Wild’ – a nature connection project for primary schools. Linking to our Science curriculum, the project aims to connect children with nature, hoping that they will come to love, respect and take action to protect it.
Prior to the trip, the children completed a range of nature activities to unlock virtual animal badges and follow ‘Ava’s Destiny’. The children were set a challenge to complete at least 10 nature activities to become a Guardian of the Wild.
After travelling on the comfy coaches, we arrived at the Wetlands to meet our guide for the day! The children were instantly in awe of the beautiful scenery and animals. They followed a nature trail to complete tasks with their group and even had a chance to go on a ‘Wild Walk’, walking through an obstacle course and wobbly bridge, surrounded by nature! A highlight of our trip was seeing the otters being fed. Year 3 enjoyed watching them crunch at their crabs for lunch and cool off in the waterfalls. We ended our day exploring the adventure playground! The children enjoyed running through the animal tunnels, swinging on the zip wire and going down the slides.
Amazingly, all the children successfully achieved their challenge and were awarded with their Guardian of the Wild badge and certificate! Well done Year 3!
Thank you to all the parent volunteers that came with us.
