This week, year 3 visited Buddhapadipa Temple, in Wimbledon.
Thankfully, the weather was on our side and the sun made its appearance! After enjoying our travel on the bus and train, we arrived at the beautiful Temple. Year 3 have been learning about Buddhism as part of their RE curriculum and so this gave them an opportunity to explore the religion in more detail.
We were fascinated by the beautiful surroundings of the gardens, the lake and statues. Although the Temple was covered in scaffolding, we didn’t let that stop us! We still managed to see the detailed, colourful exterior of the Temple which lifted our spirits. As soon as we stepped foot through the door, we were amazed by the intricate paintings that covered all the walls! There were statues of the Buddha in the centre of the Temple and each had a special meaning. Some were painted in gold, some were emerald and some came from other parts of the world!
We were lucky enough to have an interactive session with one of the Temple leaders and monk. They told us about the meaning of the paintings and where the statues came from. We even had a chance to take part in a seated meditation. It was so relaxing that some of the children and adults started to doze off! Take a look at our pictures below to see!
Thank you to all the parents who came with us!
