We have continued to think about meta-learning this week. In particular, we have been thinking about which learning powers are the most useful in specific tasks, for example in a revision task, we would need to capitalise, make links and use interdependence (consider whether it is better to work alone or with others). If we know a task is tricky, we may need to manage distractions before any new learning takes place! We have also been enjoying the sunshine and the snow! Weather seems confused but we are definitely not – we know that learning about learning skills helps us to become better learners!

Rowan class assembly
Well done to Rown class who wowed us this morning with Varjak Paw: The Meowsical this morning. It began with a nod to April Fools Day and then an explosive entry onto stage! They retold the story of Varjak Paw using their acting talents and a variety of funky pop songs! They also impressed us with letters from Varjak Paw to his family they showcased skill in description, structure and ambitious word choice (well done to Finn, Flora and Viola!). They wrote and choreographed the performance themselves! How talented are they?! Special thanks goes to Ms Weston, Miss Challacombe who helped the children realise their vision.

Cypress Superstars
Ashtri, Ruby, Dotty, Eira, Lea, Chidima and Thomas from Hawthorn have been completing an artist study of Salvador Dali. They impressed me with facts about the artist and also their Dali-inspired portraits! Matilda and Malaika designed and made amazing bronze brooches inspired by their work on the Bronze Age – fantastic intricate detail and an informative poster on Alfred the Great, Matilda. Eve has been bust creating a poster for the ‘Music Mammals’ using persuasive features -very persuasive; where can I buy a ticket?! Alana has been collecting Gold and Silver medals in gymnastics in a recent competition outside of school! What a talent -keep up the hard work and perseverance; it is clearly paying off. Flora came to see me also with her fantastic letter as Varjak Paw. It is clear that you have thought carefully about it’s content and have used varied sentence structures and ambitious vocabulary.
