EPS – Year 1 Toy Workshop

On Thursday, Year 1 had a brilliant morning discovering new and exciting facts about toys from the past. The session was hosted by Mrs Jenkins and started with the children travelling back in time to find out what life was like for people in the past. Throughout the workshop, Mrs Jenkins shared many old and new toys with the children, showing them how they worked.  Year 1 also compared the size of the toys and discussed the materials the toys were made from, making links to their current science topic ‘Materials’.  The children also did a ‘mini’ investigation and predicted which spinning top would stop first. It was such fun experimenting with the toys and exploring how to play with them. Many of the children had never seen some of the toys before!  It was a really fun session and we would like to thank Mrs Jenkins for an enjoyable morning.

Next week, the children will consolidate this new learning by writing a fact file about one of the historical toys Mrs Jenkins shared with us.
