Ecclesbourne had an exciting visit from poet Kimba as part of our Book Week celebrations. Kimba shared his poetry with us, which explored the wonders of rhythm and rhyme with a hip hop influence. Kimba led a whole school assembly where he explained the foundations of writing poetry using the mnemonic aid SHAMPOO. and his inspirations behind his poems and music.
Year 6 children had the opportunity to take part in a poetry writing sessions with Kimba, where they explored how to creatively write their own poems. Kimba inspired them to write about how they felt and teachers were blown away with how much the wrote in such little time and how inspiring their poems were.
Everyone at Ecclesbourne enjoyed seeing Kimba in action, joining in with his tongue twister raps and watching him perform his poems with such passion. After school, Kimba held a very successful book signed of his new book ‘Write the Wrongs.’ It was great to see our families supporting Kimba and celebrating poetry.
