We were thrilled to welcome author James Sellick to Ecclesbourne on Tuesday as part of our Book Week celebrations. He started the day with an inspirational assembly based on themes raised in his book ‘There’s a Rang-tan in my bedroom’, a story about a little girl who discovers a baby orangutan in her bedroom and then learns about the devastating impact of palm oil production on the rainforests. We learnt lots of facts about orangutans, their habitats and what we can do to help protect this endangered species. Josiah in Year 3 was so inspired he’s come into school today with posters and letters he’s written to companies who are using palm oil in their products. Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 were then lucky enough to have a workshop with James Sellick looking at ‘Storm Goliath’ and ‘Saving Piku’ and exploring themes around feelings. James also held a book signing after school and sold out of signed copies of his books!
We’re all looking forward to the other exciting events planned for the rest of this week.
