How EPS celebrated the 25th anniversary of World Book Day

Ecclesbourne have had yet another exciting Book Week! We have focused on poetry in our learning this year and thought about why poetry is so important.  We have learnt that poetry helps us understand and appreciate the world around us by it shedding light on the whole world.  We have also learnt that poetry shares different points of views and experiences of people from all walks of life sharing their vulnerabilities so we can all relate to each other a little better. We have learnt that poetry teaches empathy and how to live together.

World book day was another opportunity for us to celebrate poetry and it was wonderful that Kimba came to our school and lead an inspirational assembly, teaching us how to write poetry using ‘SHAMPOO’…. this may sound crazy but it is ESSENTIAL to create outstanding poems.  If parents and carers don’t know why we use ‘SHAMPOO’ when writing poems, you had better ask an EPS pupil!  Year 6 then went on to write poems in special workshops led by Kimba, learning about the importance of performing poetry and listening with respect to the performances which give us ‘food for thought’.

On Thursday – World Book Day – children showed their creativity by dressing up as well know and well-loved characters from books; we also had a ’Poetry Slam’ finale, where pupils from every class performed poems in front of the whole school.  It was an awesome event filled with powerful performances from all our fabulous finalists.

We think World Book Day is one of the best days in the school calendar.  Here are some photos for you to enjoy!
