We have been celebrating Friendship Week at Cypress, focusing on the theme of kindness.
We have set up ‘kindness jars’ in each class where children have been writing something another child has said or done that has been kind. It’s been great sharing these at the end of the school day! At the Upper School children have been recording their discussions in a ‘Kindness Journal’. Today we marked Children In Need in school, with children coming to school wearing their own clothes that they felt reflected them or their culture. Thank you for your generous donations! We raised over £400 for this very worthwhile cause.
We also enjoyed an amazing assembly this morning about kindness from Oak class. They wrote the script for the assembly themselves and shared top tips on how to be kind to yourself, the planet and organisations that can help others such as Children in Need. Thank you Oak for such a thought-provoking and well delivered assembly. Special thanks to Ms Patel, Ms Wright and Ms Snedden for supporting the children to prepare and deliver today’s assembly.
A big thanks to Ms Prideaux, Ms Sterling, Ms Jerman, Ms Williams and Mrs Smalley-Nicholson our PSHE coordinators, who have worked hard to make Friendship Week a success this week!
Cypress Superstars
In line with our new behaviour policy, each classroom has a ‘recognition board’ where we celebrate children’s successes and achievements. Each week, we (Mrs Sorensen and Mrs Carpenter) also have children coming to us to share their work and achievements and we love sharing this in our weekly news story.
At the Upper School Sophie, Ariana, Giorgia, Yakira, Kian, Cillian and Tyler have been busy in their art sessions creating domestic and wild cat masks; very creative! Tyler has been subtracting independently, using mathematical vocabulary to explain his method! Robin wrote a setting description using similies and powerful verbs to help the scene come alive. Well done, Robin!
At the Lower School Jacob, Imogen, Gilbie, Arthur and Violaine in Year 1 have worked hard to sequence their ideas using time words to describe Bob the Alien’s journey into space, demonstrating great progress in their writing since September! Lucia and Toby in Reception have been creating their own Numberblocks and Laurie has written a fantastic sentence using his sounds to describe where his ‘naughty bus’ was spotted. Well done to all our children who received Rainbows today!
Parent MAC elections
We currently have two vacancies for Parent MACs at Cypress Primary School. All families should have received a ballot paper this week, along with personal statements from the Parent MAC candidates. This was also sent out via Studybugs. Please ensure your votes reach the school offices by Tuesday 21st November at 3.30pm. We will announce our newly elected Parent MACs next week and wish all the candidates the best of luck. If you would like a ballot paper, copy of the statements or have any questions, then please speak to either school office.
Road Safety Week
Next week is Road Safety week. Please click here to read our letter and find out more about our comic strip competition!
Individual School photos
On Monday 20th November, we have individual school photos being taken in school. Please ensure your child wears full Cypress school uniform on Monday. If they have PE or Forest School, please send your child into school with these clothes in a bag so they can change. Click here to read the letter, including details if you want sibling photos and children are on different Cypress sites.
Have a great weekend!
