This week has been a testing week for our Year 6s. They have shown resilience, determination and perseverance. They are the first cohort to sit the national tests after two years of disruption and periods of remote learning. Whatever the result, we are immensely proud of them and have lots of fun activities planned for them over the next few months. Thank you to the Year 6 teaching and support teams, who continue to work tirelessly to ensure children are secondary ready; thank you Ms Prideaux, Mr Opara, Mrs O’Connor, Miss Brewer, Ms Brathwaite and Ms Weston (additional tuition).
Today, we also say a sad farewell to Ms Weston our Year 4 teacher and Year Group Leader, but we wish her all the best in her new role as Assistant Headteacher at Ecclesbourne Primary School. We also welcome back from Monday, Ms Stewart who will be our Year 4 Year Group Leader and full time teacher in Rowan class.
Cedar Class Assembly
We began the day with an amazing assembly from Cedar class who shared some of what they had learned during their Stone Age topic. They entertained us by taking us back in time and interviewing Stone Age people. They finished with the song, ‘We Will Rock You’ by Queen. Well done to Cedar class for a fantatstic assembly and a big thank you to Mr Shipley and Miss Francis for helping the children with their amazing performance.
Jubilee Celebrations
We have also been enjoying our Trust-wide Jubilee celebrations today. We have had a virtual Platinum Jubilee assembly with the royal family in attendance! We also sang the national anthem together during our tree-planting ceremony, have been enjoying Jubilee activities and have learnt lots about the Queen! The Cypress Royal Variety Show has been such great fun. Every class put forward an act to represent them and entertain the school. Well done to all children who took part – it was an amazing show and you represented your class so well! A big well done to runner up Malaika in Lime class with her puppet show act and congratulations to first place winners Issam and Kenzo for their Rubik’s cube /musical double act – it was so creative and entertaining! Please see our additional news story for more photos!
The children have a special Jubilee medal commemorating the day, a Jubilee sticker and a Union Jack flag to take home. Ask your child about the day – we hope they’ve had just as much fun as we have!
Cypress Superstars
Well done to Jules who created a masterpiece for the Summer Art competition (good luck, Jules!). Pietro and Theodore have been busy creating a very informative explanation text about ‘How Bees Make Honey’. I was impressed by your use of subject specific words, fronted adverbials and presentation! Well done to you both. Nina and Nikolai impressed me with their formal letters based on the book, ‘The Island’. The letters were so well written using formal language and great stylistic choices to enhance effect! Amelie and Sophia wowed their violin teacher with their musical skill! Keep up the practice – it is definitely paying off!
