CYP UPPER: First Week Back

We have had a week full of reflection, in particular considering how best to show that you care about others. We identified the use of kind words, listening to others and showing empathy as key skills to develop. We considered the power of a compliment, and the benefits of listening and empathy for us, as well as those around us.

We also enjoyed an amazing assembly from Beech class today. They shared their recent experiences of camping and baking and newly learned skills, such as how to help an injured person in an isolated space such as a forest, or what to do if you find someone needing immediate medical attention. Our bakers discussed the trickier elements of their cake making – the enticing baking outcome was the pay off for showing such perseverance! See our gallery for photos.

Well done to our Cypress Superstars this week! Well done to Ami (Lime) who has made great progress in reading and is now reading words fluently and with great confidence! Well done also to Ralph (Lime), a literary master in the making, who has written his own fictional story about being lost on space. Keep up the writing, I can’t wait to read the next instalment Ralph! Another impressive writer this week was Mahid (Birch), who wrote descriptive sentences using ambitious vocabulary to describe how he might feel being part of a magic show. Y3 have enjoyed the introduction to their new English text. Click here to find out more about Leon and the Place Between’.

Thank you again to those who attended the opening of the new library. Children will begin to enjoy the library next week. Unfortunately a technical hiccup involving the distribution of borrowing codes for books, meant that many of our titles had to be removed from the library during the holiday. They have now been returned, which means we can get on with the business of enjoying the library from next week!

The much anticipated PTFA Summer Fair is this Sunday 12th June from 1pm, on the Lower School field.  Please come along, bring your friends and family and help raise funds for our children at Cypress. There’ll be the usual fun with a bouncy castle, face painting, lots of craft activities and games for the children, as well as an open mic session for the children to perform if they’d like to. There will also be representatives from Croydon FC ready to teach football skills and play football with the children! Tickets are £3 per child, which gives them two goes on the bouncy castle, as well as access to all crafts and games.  Face painting, external stalls and refreshments/bar/food is extra.  Adults go free (unless you would like to generously make a voluntary donation).  Buy your tickets now at www.ptfa-events.co.uk/cypressptfa or pay on the door.  We can’t wait to see you there!  A HUGE thanks to the wonderful PTFA volunteers and supporters for all their efforts.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you at the Fair on Sunday!
