CYP – Showing empathy

At the Lower School, we are learning about empathy.  We began by learning that empathy is the ability to share someone else’s feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person’s situation.  We looked at the example of Mojo who was organising a play with his friends and did not understand they were scared and worried about being on the stage.  He lost his temper with them and did not show empathy.  The children were able to identify how they would have behaved differently if they were him. At the Upper School, we have been thinking about ‘flow’ – the feeling of being so absorbed in your thinking and completion of a task, that you lose your sense of time and self conciousness and engage fully in the activity. We spoke about ways that we may be able to reach a state of flow. We know that this is the optimal state for learning in the classroom and by making simple changes, we can improve our chances of achieving this.

Blue Class Assembly

We began the day on Thursday with a fantastic assembly from Blue Class. Blue Class sang songs, performed poems and a dance all based around the theme of winter.  To see more about this, read our article here

Willow Class Assembly

We were treated to an assembly from Willow Class about the plight of the Amazon rainforest this morning. They also wowed us with a heartfelt rendition of ‘What a wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. To find out more, please click here.

Turquoise Class visit the Mosque

This week it was the turn of Turquoise Class to visit Croydon Mosque.  Turquoise class thoroughly enjoyed their morning at the mosque and learnt lots of new information to support their learning.  They are looking forward to applying this knowledge in their work in class.

Cypress Superstars

Congratulations to Makari and Robin in Orange Class who have been working hard on their self-regulation.  They both achieved all their stamps on their target chart.  Well done to Kacey in Ruby Class who produced a wonderful twisted tale using the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.  It was lovely to see how much progress she has made in her writing.  Congratulations to Austin in Orange Class who came to show his amazing writing about ‘The Gruffalo’.  He had used his sound buttons well in his writing.

Well done to Stella in Holly Class, who has created a non chronological report on Victorian ladies fashion at home to complement the work she has been doing in class on the Victorians. I was very impressed by the detail and the ‘dress me up’ element, making the report not only informative, but also interactive! Amari and Ridwan in visited after completing some tricky multiplication equations using the grid method. They explained the process of multiplying clearly and could justify their answers as they both were confident with times tables! Milana, Josh and Miracle in Holly Class  have been hard at work during a writing fluency lesson, uplevelling their sentences and giving deep thought to their word choices and the effect particular words have on their sentences – well done! Aisha in Holly Class has been reading the book, ‘The Proudest Blue’, by Ibtihaj Muhammad and S.K.Ali. She made links to themes in the book and brought in her beautiul hijab to wear today. It was so lovely to see you beaming with pride whilst wearing your hijab, Aisha!

We wish all our children and families an enjoyable weekend.
