As part of our Book Week at Cypress Lower, we welcomed storyteller Kevin Graal to the school today. Kevin began the day working with our youngest children in Rainbows and Nursery and had a wonderful time with the children teaching them stories and rhymes. After this, Kevin spent the rest of the day working with our Year 1 classes. The children enjoyed listening and joining in with all the actions and really had to use their noticing skills to answer Kevin’s questions about the bells he played.
Kevin told the children the story of a man who loved to make hats. He made so many that he had a large box full of them. One day, the man decided he would go to the market and sell his hats. It was a long and exhausting journey and he began to get tired so he stopped for a rest. Unfortunately, the man fell asleep under a tree and when he woke up his hats had gone. He was unaware that, at the top of the tree, a group of cheeky monkeys had seen him fall asleep and come down and stolen his hats. Once he realised, the monkeys refused to give the hat back and started copying everything he did. The children then had to help think of a plan to get the hats back and got to act out some of their ideas with Kevin.
This afternoon, the children are going to be writing and illustrating their own ending based on their plan. We cannot wait to see what they come up with.
Thank you Kevin for joining us today and thank you to Cypress PTFA who have generously funded our author visits this year.
