Growing, growing….
All the children seem to have grown in Little Cypress over the Easter break and we are carrying on that theme in class by thinking about how plants grow. We have been listening to different versions of the fairy tale: ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and learning the repeated refrains of the giant! We particularly enjoyed: ‘Jack and the Jelly Bean Stalk’.
We planted our own beans (broad beans) and we have watered them and are watching them closely to see if they will develop in to beanstalks! Luckily, we have though carefully about what plants need to grow and have made sure we have put them in a light space, in plenty of soil and we are remembering to spray them with water so they don’t dry out!
Today was particularly exciting because we planted our Cress Mountain! Not only did we plant cress seeds, but also mustard seeds and cat grass. We watched a time lapse on cress seeds growing and were quite surprised that ours hadn’t started to sprout, five minutes after we had planted them!! We all had a go at sprinkling the seeds over the compost and hope there will be some signs of growth on Monday.
Laolu said: “We need to make sure we give the seeds water and then they will grow!”
Inaya commented: “I am spraying the seeds. They will grow up like grass!”
Unicorns and Pegasuses
Some of us have been really interested in both unicorns and pegasuses this week and have been creating, colouring and cutting out ones we have made. We enjoyed playing with our Fairyland small world tuff tray, containing a plethora of unicorns, pegasuses, fairies and metallic fairy houses.
Construction has also been popular this week, as has practising our cutting skills! We have been busy counting anything and everything and are getting so accurate with our 1:1 correspondence.
The warmer weather has meant that plenty of us have been choosing to spend time outside, enjoying the sunshine and collaborative play with our friends.
Makaton Sign of the Week
As usual, we have learned a new Makaton sign this week. We run the Daily Mile each day and so today’s sign is very relevant – it is ‘run’. Click here to see how to sign the word for ‘run’. Good luck also to all those running the London Marathon this weekend!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
