Halloween and Diwali
It has been a short but busy week back in Little Cypress! Rainbows and Nursery have been thinking about the exciting events of this time of year, including both Halloween and Diwali; the Hindu Festival of Lights. We have been doing some fun Halloween bubble printing and making repeating patterns with Halloween-themed shapes.
We all worked very hard making our Diwali diyas. Diya Lamps are oil lamps lit during the festival of Diwali to symbolise prosperity in the new year. In the story of Diwali, these clay diyas lit the way home for Rama and Sita as they came out of a long exile in the forest. They are small pots made from clay and could be described as ‘thumb pots’ as they are made by pressing the thumb into a ball of clay and shaping it.
Each child painted their diya in bright colours, as well as making patterns in the clay. When they had dried, we added some glitter for extra sparkle and some glue to seal them and make them shiny. It was heart-warming to see how excited the children were to take their precious diyas home.
Makaton Sign of the Week
As usual, we have learned a new Makaton sign this week. It is quite pertinent for this time of year, as it is ‘ghost’. Click here to see how to sign the word ‘ghost’.
We hope you all have a happy weekend!
