We’ve had a fantastic Friendship Week at Cypress Lower School, learning how to be good friends and celebrating kindness. Lots of children have received special kindness stickers and certificates this week, as teachers have been on the look out for acts of kindness and friendship. On Tuesday everyone wore odd socks to school to celebrate the fact that we are all unique – there is no one else in the whole world just like me! Today we have all worn bright coloured clothes to school and donated money for Children In Need. We were welcomed on the school gate by none other than Pudsey the Bear, who also visited all the classes this morning and made a guest appearance in assembly. We raised over £200 at the Lower School for Children in Need today – thank you for your generous donations!
If your child is in Reception they will be sent home with a special pack from the Book Trust today. Your child will receive a free copy of ‘We’re going to find a monster!’ by Malorie Blackman. The Book Trust aims to inspire families to read together daily.
Thank you to our volunteer gardeners for their efforts this afternoon. In just an hour you’ve managed to plant over 50 bulbs and plants!
Cypress Superstars
Well done to Elias who painted his nails blue this week to show awareness of World Diabetes Day. He confidently explained to his class why he had painted his nails and what this meant to him. Kaden in Reception took a great interest in Mrs Sorensen’s Remembrance Day poppy this week and created his own wonderful piece of poppy art. Aleksy and Musawer have been working really hard to learn their subtraction number bonds within 10 and even tackled some greater depth challenges. Indigo class travelled by train and tube to visit the Science Museum on Thursday, hitching a lift to Crystal Palace station in the Pegasus minibus to avoid the rain. They all had a great day and demonstrated Pegasus Values by displaying excellent manners and behaviour. Well done to Miss Wenham’s Year 2 booster group who worked really hard on solving addition equations this week. Giorgia in Year 2 also worked hard on her maths this week, solving some challenging addition word problems. Year 2 have also produced so fantastic writing this week based on Mr Twit – see if you can spot some of his cooking below after he worked in our school kitchen for the morning!
We celebrated lots of children’s achievements in our Rainbow assembly today, many who had been chosen for being kind friends this week. Well done to Matipa, Ibi and Widad for winning a Word of the Week rosette. Next week our word is friend.
Next week…
We have so much planned for next week! On Monday the photographer is in school and you can read more here. Road Safety Week starts on Monday and we will be having a special assembly and encouraging children to be ‘bright to be seen’ on their journeys to school. On Tuesday we have an author called James Carter visiting, who will be leading an exciting assembly and then some workshops with children in Year 1. On Wednesday, Year 2 children are welcome to come into school dressed up for Tudor Day. We also have ‘No Pens Day’ on Wednesday where we will be accessing the curriculum in a more creative way! Year 2 children have a Diwali workshop on Thursday and Blue class will be visiting the Science Museum on Friday. What an exciting week ahead we have planned!

We are also busy planning for a Parent/Carer SEND Coffee Morning which will be held at the Lower School on Thursday 1st December – watch this space as we’ll send out more details next week.
