CYP: A wonderful week of learning

This week has been a very busy first full week of learning.  The children have all settled well into their new classes and routines and are making good progress.  It has been lovely to see so many smiling and happy faces around the school.

At the Lower School this week, we have been beginning to think about being resilient.  We have been learning about ‘The secrets of the brain’ and the effect it has on us when we try something hard.  The children now know that when we try something new it is like a workout for our brain and this helps it grow.  The children have enjoyed sharing what they have been doing to help their brain grow this week.

At the Upper school we have been thinking about the power of noticing. We understand that when we learn, we have to take our time and ask questions – the answer may not be immediately obvious, but when we take time to check the detail, the solutions may become clear or our errors (or opportunities for learning) will be easier to spot! We are really trying to become comfortable with the uncomfortable feelings brought on by learning something new!

Reception and Little Cypress

Well done to all our new starters in Rainbows, Nursery and Reception.  The children have settled in well and enjoying making new friends and exploring new learning.  We are all so impressed with how well the children have been moving around the school and behaving in the lunch hall.  We are are really proud of you all.

Attendance

As you may be aware, there have been some changes to school attendance put in place by the DfE over the summer break.  To read the Trust’s attendance policy click here. You can find out more information about the changes by clicking here

If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, please speak to the Head, Deputy Head of School or front office staff who will be able to help you.

Curriculum Newsletters and Meetings
Curriculum meetings for parents and carers at the Lower School will take place on the following dates in the school hall:
Year 1 Tuesday 24th September 9:05 a.m.
Reception Wednesday 25th September 9:15 a.m.
Year 2 Thursday 26th September 9:05 a.m.
These meetings will give parents and carers an opportunity to find out more about the curriculum for this year group and how you can support at home.  There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.   We also send home curriculum newsletters.  You can read Reception here, Year 1 here and Year 2 here.
House Captains at the Upper School
Every year, children in Year 6 are given the opportunity to speak to their house and nominate themselves as a candidate the role of House Captain. All candidates had to write a manifesto and speak to Year 6. Initial candidates were then whittled down to four for each house by Year 6. These children read their manifestos to the entire house this morning and they all voted on the speech that resonated with them.
We will update you with the results of the vote next week!
Well done to all children who wrote a speech, they delivered it with confidence to their peers and showed great courage and character. No matter the result, we are very proud of you.
We wish all our children and families a restful and relaxing weekend and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday.
