Atwood Sports Round Up.

It has been a busy time for Atwood pupils competing in sports competitions.

On Tuesday, a group of year 5 and 6 netballers took part in a Bee netball tournament at Shirley High school. The prize was to represent Croydon at the London youth games and so the competition was fierce! We were one of 14 schools and played against primary schools from across Croydon. Without a doubt, the girls played some of their best netball and playing with the sun and blue sky behind them certainly helped! We had the biggest score in the competition in our first game when we won 10-0 and went on to win a further 2 games as well as one draw and two losses. Overall we came 4th and the girls even had energy to play a friendly against Forestdale before we left! Well done to all!

Later that day, we travelled the short journey to Purley Oaks primary school to play the last league game of the season. It was wonderful to end on a high, with a 12-0 win. Autumn was named player of the match and well done to Honey, Amber, Maddie, Zara, Lexi, Tekkara, Alicia and Scarlett.

On Thursday a group of girls entered a football tournament at Lanfranc High School.  The standard was very competitive with teams from all over Croydon at the event.  The girls played five matches and with some resolute defending managed to come away with four draws and one win.  They came fourth in their group which was an excellent effort.  Well done to Silver, Autumn, Alicia, Amber, Honey, Phoebe, Amelie, Iona, Salihah, Harlowe and Madison.

On Saturday, we had a group of children representing the school at the South London Harriers Cros Country meet at There were some very strong performances and all the children did a great job of competing. For the girls,  Grace and Freya came 9th and 18th respectively and in the boys’ Year 3/4 event , a strong team performance saw them come in as  overall ???.  Well done to Michael (3rd), Olly (4th), James (6th), Laiq (23rd), Caleb (34th) and Ethan (39th).

Finally, We must also acknowledge the achievement of Morgan from year 6 who on Saturday, travelled to Sheffield to the English Institute of Sport to take part in the British schools 2025 Judo championships, representing Atwood primary School. This competition included pupils from England, Scotland, Wales & Ireland.

It was a huge event and the whole weekend was broadcast live on TV and can be seen on Youtube.  Morgan took part in the years 6 & 7 +66kg category, he worked so hard having a couple of very easy wins and a couple of gruelling fights. Morgan took the gold medal making him the  2025 British School Judo Champion for his category.

We are very proud of him and his huge achievement.
