After a busy final week, we have made it to the end of term. Nursery charmed us with their Christmas singalong. Key Stage One amazed us with their Nativity. Our Rock Steady musicians blew us away with their rock concert and we celebrated lots of fantastic independent learners in our Gold Award assembly.
In addition, Year 1 have been visiting the Year 5 classrooms to share their Moon fact files and Year 5 shared their writing with the parallel Year 5 class. Year 3 have been learning about Christmas traditions started by the Victorians as additional learning for their thematic topic. They learned about how Queen Charlotte (Queen Victoria’s mother) had the first Christmas tree in this country brought over from Germany and then how Prince Albert continued the tradition because Queen Victoria loved having one in her palace. It was an image of this tree, printed in a London newspaper, that started a trend for having Christmas trees in the home as everyone wanted to be like the royal family. They also enjoyed playing traditional ‘parlour’ games that would have been played in Victorian households. Year 4 used their scientific understanding of circuits and their design skills to make illuminated Christmas decorations and Year 2 produced ‘missing’ posters in their search for Jack Frost. Year 6 managed to fit in writing a biography of Cleopatra and there have been various Christmas crafts going on throughout the school.
Looking back over the newsletters, I can see that it has been a really successful term with lots of events, trips and visits. The children have been working really hard in school and there has been some amazing progress for so many of our learners over the past 15 weeks. They all deserve a really good rest. All that remains is for me to wish you a restful break. I look forward to seeing everyone back feeling refreshed and ready to go in the new year.
Sports news
There were two tough away matches for the boys’ football team this week. On Tuesday, the team played against St James the Great and despite their best efforts they lost 3-0. Then on Thursday, they had a match against Selsdon. This time around a strong performance earned them a 3-0 victory with goals from Courtney (2) and Ronnie. Well done, boys!
In other sports’ news, some of you may have noticed some new markings on the playground. They are for a game called Four Square. It is proving very popular with the children and helping to keep them entertained at breaktimes. If you want to learn more about how the game is played, have a look at the video through this link.

And finally…
Thank you to FOAP and everyone who attended our Christmas Fair. It was an incredible effort by an army of volunteers and they managed to raise £3250 which will go towards projects that benefit all the children in school.
