As the weather turned this week, the children have been keeping themselves warm in school by working really hard with some fantastic learning.
In Reception, the children have been reading ‘Emma Jane’s Aeroplane’ and learning all about the world. They have been looking at maps and comparing different cities like Venice and London. In Nursery, the children have been discovering all about triangles and learning the sound ‘t’. They have also been learning about all the colours in the rainbow,
This week, Year 1 have been studying the text ‘Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram. The children have been writing sentences and making predictions about what they think the astronaut Bob will get up to in the book.
This week, Year 2 have been learning to subtract two-digit numbers on a number line. They have been researching and sharing lots of interesting facts about Henry VIII in preparation for writing fact files about him next week. They have also cast roles and started rehearsals for their upcoming nativity production.
This week, Year 3 have been practising their skills when punctuating speech. They have been looking really closely at accurate punctuation and ensuring their inverted commas are in the right place as well as making sure everything else in their sentence is correct. It’s not easy as there is a lot going on. The children have also been looking at fact families and learning about inverse equations in Maths. In Science, the children have been investigating magnets and talking about forces such as gravity.
In Year 4, the children have written a diary entry from Matthew Henson describing his life as he reached Greenland. Indigo class treated us to a fantastic assembly where they showcased their learning about sentences with subordinate clauses and shared a poem about Boudicca. They also gave us a rendition of a song about the water cycle and played a video of the dance they have been learning in PE. It was a lovely way to start our Friday.
In Year 5, the children have been publishing their Beowulf narratives demonstrating their fantastic writing skills. They also spent some time tasting seasonal vegetables in preparation for making their Viking soup next week.
The highlight for Year 6 this week was their trip to the Natural History Museum. On Wednesday, they set off on the bus to catch the train and tube. They spent the day learning about evolution and inheritance. They have also been writing a news bulletin this week which they then performed to their class
Sports news
On Thursday, the football team played a match against Greenvale. In very cold conditions, they lost 2-0 but the boys put in an excellent effort despite the wintry weather.
Unfortunately, the netball match on Tuesday had to be cancelled due to the inclement weather but hopefully it will be rescheduled.
On Saturday a group of children from Year 6 entered a Korfball tournament. Despite most of them never having played before they did an excellent job and managed to pick up the bronze medal. The children really enjoyed discovering this new game and are keen to play more. Thanks to the parents who organised this opportunity for the children.
Scholastic Book Fair
Many thanks to all those parents who have visited the book fair this week. Any books that you bought help to raise funds for the school which will provide more books for our library.
And finally…
Thank you to everyone who supported The Poppy Appeal by purchasing their poppy in school. We raised over £164 for The Royal British Legion.
