ATW Nursery News – Goldilocks and The Three Bears

For the past two weeks, Nursery has covered the traditional tale; ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’. From reading the story across the weeks, adding oats to our home corner, tasting porridge and adding actions to the story our children can retell and perform the story to the class using  masks they have made.. It was an exciting start to the story after discovering our home corner had been turned upside down and made a terrible mess. Many guesses were made about who did it including; a scary witch, a potato, a naughty spider and even someone’s mummy! Once the story was introduced, the children quickly added the pieces together and correctly identified it as Goldilocks!  As the week progressed  porridge tasting was next on our agenda.  Many children shared what they had for breakfast and what they had with their porridge. Some responses were “I have banana and blueberries”, “My porridge has strawberries”, and “I have banana, blueberries, and agave on top”. These are very yummy and healthy options to start the day with.
This week’s library session saw us look back on previous stories we’ve read and what ones have been our favourites. This included ‘The Big Balloon’, ‘There’s a Shark in the Park’ and ‘Peace at Last’. We also covered our new initial sound ‘K’ and being able to recognise that the words, ‘Kite’, ‘Kangaroo’, ‘Kit’, and ‘Kettle’ all begin with the same initial sound.
Nursery thoroughly enjoyed their time in the PE halls last week joining in with active games and developing skills so this week, we went again. We warmed up to a game of ‘Beans’ which encouraged the children to run, jump, or rest followed by a game of ‘stuck in the mud’ and finishing by practising our balancing and jumping skills as the children took turns to walk along the bench and jump at the end.
In class, we used our musical instruments to play a game of ‘Ready, Steady Stop’, ensuring the children were listening to the volume, speed, and actions of the song to ‘STOP’ when the music told them to. The children quickly got the hang of this and found it funny when the word ‘stop’ was replaced with a different word to check to see who was listening carefully.
We reached the end of our busy week with lots of Valentine’s Day activities, creating cards for special family members and creating crafty bracelets using various materials to share with friends.
