CYP Lower – Weekly news update

This week at Cypress Lower School we have been learning about Remembrance Day.  Children have been busy making poppies and learning about the significance of these at this time of the year.  We held a respectful 2 minute silence at 11am this morning, alongside the rest of the nation.

Updates

  • Our Adventure Playground is back in action!  Following some repairs to equipment, the children have now been enjoying using this resource again;
  • Thank you to those who were able to attend the Little Cypress Nursery curriculum meeting earlier this week.  If you missed it, then please read more here;
  • Seve the Cypress Superdog made his debut visit this week and we’ve all loved getting to know him.  We are very excited that Seve has joined our school community and you can read more about him and the work he’ll be doing at Cypress here;
  • Please note the change to our term dates this academic year 2022-23 in light of bank holiday for the The King’s Coronation in May 2023.  We have also now published the term dates for 2023-24.  Find out more here.

Cypress Superstars

Year 2 have had a great week!  We’ve seen some wonderfully persuasive letter writing, with children pleading to Mrs Sorensen to argue their case why Mr Twit should not be employed in our school kitchen – please see some of these in the photos below.  Children have been learning to subject 2-digit numbers and we’ve been impressed with their hard work in maths.  We are really proud of Ruby class for their positive manners and behaviour on their trip to Hampton Court today.

Year 1 children have been busy writing descriptions for their very own aliens.  Bethany’s alien has silly eyes, fluffy antennae and a really long tail!  Indigo class are visiting the Science Museum next week and we can’t wait to hear all about their adventures.

This week Reception have been reading all about ‘The Naughty Bus’ and the very cheeky things he gets up to!  Each class has made their own big bus and have stuck their faces on as passengers.  Children have also been remembering fallen soldiers today and creating their own poppies.

Friendship Week

Next week we are celebrating Friendship Week and will be learning how to be a kind, supportive and good friend.  We are encouraging children (and staff!) to wear odd socks to school on Tuesday 15th November, to celebrate us all being unique.  On Friday 18th November children can wear their own clothes (the brighter the better!) and we will be fundraising for Children In Need.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
