History
Like the Whitehorse Manor schools, Ecclesbourne Primary has been subject to a lot of reorganisation over the years.
1901 – 1930
The schools were originally situated, from 1901, on a site on the northern side of Ecclesbourne Road. They were in the square formed by Berne, Geneva and Zermatt Roads, a site now occupied by Bensham Manor School.
Originally Ecclesbourne was three schools – each with a different Headteacher. Betweeen 1901 and 1930, on the Ecclesbourne Road site the school consisted of an Infants Mixed school, a ‘Post Infants’ Boys’ school (for those aged 7-11) and a ‘Post Infants’ Girls’ school.
In 1976 the Infants left the Ecclesbourne Road site to move to new premises at Attlee Close.
1930 – 1976
In 1930 there was a reorganisation and the close association between the schools in the Pegasus Academy Trust began as the senior boys moved to the Whitehorse Manor site on Whitehorse Road. This left an Infants Mixed school, a Junior Boys’ school and a Senior Girls’ School. This situation continued until 1961 when the remaining boys left to join the other boys at Whitehorse, leaving just Infants and Senior Girls.
1976 – Present Day
In 1976 the Infants left the Ecclesbourne Road site to move to new premises at Attlee Close where the present school is located. They were joined there by a new Junior School who used the Infant building until the new Junior School building was ready next door. In September 2009 the Junior and Infant schools were combined to form Ecclesbourne Primary and in April 2011 the Pegasus Academy Trust became responsible for the school.
