CYP – Year 3’s Brilliant Book Week!

What a fantastic Book Week Year 3 have had! We kicked of our book week with a special visit from poet Joshua Seigal. Year 3 have been reading lots of poems from Josh’s books ‘Yapping Away’ and ‘I don’t like poetry’. Joshua started his day with us with a whole school assembly, which you can find more about here!

We were then lucky enough to have a poetry writing workshop with Joshua Seigal! Holly Class wrote poems about emotions, Birch Class wrote poems about monsters and Cedar Class wrote poems about their favourite places. Josh gave us some great tips about writing poems – not all poems need rhyme and you can write poems about anything and everything! Some of us even bought one of Joshua’s books and he signed them personally for us! Thank you Joshua Seigal for a fantastic, fabulous, fun-filled visit!

After out fantastic day with Joshua Seigal full of alliteration and onomatopoeia, Year 3 went down to the Lower Site for some buddy reading with Rainbows & Nursery. We were welcomed by Little Cypress with lots of big smiles and hugs! From reading on sofas, to reading inside the play tunnel, Year 3 definitely understood that you can read absolutely anywhere. Some of us read with our siblings and some of us made new buddy friends! We hope to see Little Cypress again soon.

Thursday was World Book Day and what a special day it was! We had a wide range of book characters arriving to Year 3. It was lovely to see the effort and creativity that had gone into the costumes to bring the characters to life. With many others, we had the Wild Robot, Bad Nana, Dog Man,  Angelina Ballerina and characters from Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland. We also had some creative costumes from the Year 3 adults including the maid from Sleeping Beauty, Prince Cinders, Little Red Riding Hood, Rastamouse, footballers and Asiya from the Proudest Blue.

To end our book-filled week, we will leave you with a verse from Joshua Seigal’s poem ‘Fill the world’ from Yapping away:

Words that laugh and words that cry

Words that whoosh as they go by

Words as sweet as apple pie –

Let’s fill the world with words!
