It has been a fun week in Reception and the children have been busy working hard. This week the focus book has been “The Bog Baby” by Jeanna Willis. The children predicted what features a bog baby would have and then created a drawing of how they thought they would look. The next day the bog baby from the story was revealed and the children compared their predictions to the reality. Everybody was invited to make a bog baby using blue salt dough and various craft materials. A cute collection of creatures was created. Reception then considered how pets are kept and what owners do to meet their needs. They created a list of things they need to keep it healthy and happy. Finally, the children designed and made a habitat for their new pet bog baby to live in. After all of this talk about keeping pets, some of the children completed a writing challenge to tell everybody what pets they would like to have at home.
On Wednesday it was the start of the Lunar New Year. The children learned about the Zodiac story. They enjoyed dressing up as the animals who took part in the great race. Lots of snake crafts were made to celebrate the year of the snake, and the children discovered that they were born in the year of the rat or the pig.
