We were so excited and honoured to meet Olympic bronze medallist, Victoria Ohuruogu, when she came to visit Ecclesbourne on Wednesday. Victoria led a fun-filled morning of athletics, suitable for all ages and abilities, where we learnt to warm up and keep flexible. She then led a whole-school assembly.
Victoria played videos to demonstrate her mantra of ‘patience and perseverance’ which helped her to win medals. The first video showed Victoria competing in the British National Championships when she came 7th, then we saw her come back the following year and come 4th. Then, after real focus and resilience, she returned to win gold! Watching the videos made us realise what an amazing athlete Victoria is and that she never gave up – she just kept trying. Victoria went on to win bronze at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Alannah in Meteors class said, “I was inspired by Victoria because I would love to be an athlete, too, and she told us that with patience and perseverance we can reach our potential!”
We are now so inspired to continue raising money to improve our sports equipment at EPS . Please bring your money and forms back to Mr Strutt by Wednesday 29th January and prizes will be distributed in due course.
